USB-C port

Select location

You can use Sonos Roam just about anywhere. For maximum performance, here are a few guidelines:

  • You can place it next to a wall or on a shelf—for best performance, leave at least 1" (2.5 cm) of space around the back of the speaker.
  • Silicone end caps protect from drops or bumps.
  • Avoid placing it in direct sunlight.
  • Place the speaker horizontally or vertically. When vertical, it takes up barely any room. Position it horizontally for added stability on uneven surfaces.
  • When the microphone is on, the speaker tunes itself with automatic TrueplayTM.

Set up stereo pair

Pair two Sonos speakers in the same area for a wider, stereo experience. One speaker serves as the left channel and one serves as the right channel.

Note: The Sonos speakers in a stereo pair must be the same type (i.e. a pair of Ones or One and One SL).

  1. Place the speakers 8' to 10' (2.4 m to 3 m) apart. The listening position should be 8' to 12' (2.4 m to 3.6 m) from the paired speakers—less distance increases bass, more distance improves stereo imaging.
  2. Go to > System.
  3. Select one of the speakers to use in the stereo pair, then select Set Up Stereo Pair to get started.

Trueplay™

Trueplay tuning measures how sound reflects off walls, counters, and other surfaces in an area, then fine tunes the Sonos speakers to make sure they sound great no matter where they're placed.

During setup, choose the Trueplay option that works best for your space. To retune later:

  1. Go to Settings .
  2. Choose a product.
  3. Select Trueplay.

Note: If VoiceOver is enabled on your iOS device, Trueplay tuning isn’t available. Turn it off in your device settings before tuning your speakers.

Advanced Tuning

Advanced tuning is custom and precise. It takes about 5 minutes and uses the microphone on an iOS device (running iOS 8 or later) so you'll move around the room while the sound is fine tuned for your space.

Note: Advanced tuning is the best choice for larger areas (larger open spaces may experience less precise tuning).

Quick Tuning

Quick tuning is fast, effortless, and accessible. It takes about a minute and uses the microphone on your Sonos product to detect the environment so there's no need to move around during tuning.

Note: Quick Tuning is available for both iOS and Android, and is a good choice for smaller areas, or spaces where it's difficult to move easily.
