How do I know if my product is eligible?
Sign in to your account and go to Trade Up to see if your product is marked eligible. For more information on legacy products and eligibility, please reference this article.
Can I get credit if my product is not eligible?
No. This programme is intended to help owners of legacy products upgrade to the modern Sonos experience.
Do I have to participate in Sonos Trade Up?
No. This is a voluntary programme.
Why should I participate in Sonos Trade Up?
Since we first released products in 2005, there have been many notable advancements that these products can't support due to hardware limitations. Products currently eligible for this programme are classified as legacy products and will no longer receive software updates and new features as of May 2020. Sonos Trade Up provides a simple way for you to upgrade your legacy products and save on modern ones.
What is a legacy product?
Legacy products were introduced between 2005 and 2011 and, given the age of the technology, do not have enough memory or processing power to sustain future innovation. These products will not receive software updates as of May 2020. For more information on legacy products and eligibility, please reference this article.
What is the expected lifecycle of a Sonos product?
Once a product reaches end-of-sale, we are committed to providing software updates for five years, though these products may lack certain capabilities and enhancements due to the limitations of the computer hardware.
What happens when I initiate recycling?
Once you confirm you'd like to trade up your eligible product in the Sonos app, you can continue listening for 21 days. After this period, the product enters Recycle Mode. Your data is deleted and the product is permanently deactivated.
What is Recycle Mode?
Recycle Mode is a state your product enters 21 days after confirmation in the Sonos app. Once in this state, the product is deactivated and your data is deleted. Once a product is in Recycle Mode, it will not connect to the Sonos ecosystem.
Why do I have to deactivate my product to receive credit?

The useful life of these legacy products has been reached, and they will not sustain the software that the modern Sonos experience relies on.

Deactivating these products deletes personal data and prepares them for responsible e-recycling. It also ensures that these products are not resold to other customers under false pretenses.

Can I cancel or edit my recycling request?
After you've initiated recycling through your sonos.com account, you can still edit and cancel the request. Once you confirm recycling in the app, you cannot make any changes or cancel deactivation.
Can I put my device in Recycle Mode before the 21-day period?
Yes. To deactivate your device early, tap on the badge in the Settings tab. Remember to purchase and set up a new product before you deactivate. This will save your system settings, accounts, alarms, favourites, etc.
If I don't trade up my product, can I still receive credit?
No. You must confirm Recycle Mode in the Sonos app to receive credit.
Can I trade up more than one eligible product?
Yes. For each eligible product you trade up, you will receive credit for up to 30% off a single new product.
How long will it take to receive my credit?
The credit will be applied to your account as soon as you confirm recycling in the app.
What can I purchase with my credit?
Trade Up credit applies to a single product purchased on sonos.com, excluding limited edition products, refurbished products, and third-party accessories.
Can my credit be applied to multiple products in one order?
A single credit will apply to a single product only. If you have multiple credits, you may use them for an order containing multiple items. Any credit will automatically apply to the most expensive item(s).
Can I combine my credit with other promotional offers?
Credit cannot be combined with other offers or promotions on sonos.com.
Can I send my deactivated product back to Sonos?
Yes. Sign in to your account to learn more.
How should I package my device for return?
Pack the device(s) in an appropriate-size box. Affix the prepaid return label provided in My Account and drop the package off at any UPS location. You do not need a Sonos box or the original packaging.
Does my credit ever expire?
No. You can use your Trade Up discount at any time.
Do you resell recycled products?
No. These products cannot be resold responsibly due to the age and limitations of their technology.
