Introducing Sonos Play

When we launched the first portable Sonos speaker in 2019, the goal was to make a premium sound experience available anywhere your adventures might take you. In the years since, we’ve refined our portable speaker lineup to fit distinct priorities: Sonos Move 2 delivers wide, spacious stereo sound with long-lasting battery life, while Sonos Roam 2 is an ultra-portable companion that brings the Sonos experience wherever the day leads.
Now, we’re introducing a third portable speaker that’s our most versatile yet — a perfect balance of compact size and powerful, bass-heavy stereo sound.
Meet Sonos Play.
Sound familiar? If you’ve been listening with Sonos since our origins, you may remember our best-selling Play: product line. The all-new Sonos Play nods to this heritage, though it more fully realises the promise suggested by the name — this is a speaker designed for play in every sense of the word. It’s small enough to go wherever adventure calls, and powerful enough to fill a room with impressive bass and clarity. It’s rugged enough to take on the trail, and refined enough to hook on your living room wall.
In other words, it’s a portable speaker that plays just like you do.
Powerful audio, lasting battery life
Before thinking too hard about issues like weight and size, there’s one important question to ask of any portable speaker: Does it sound good?
Sonos Play doesn’t just sound good. It pushes the limits of what a portable speaker this size can deliver, thanks to an acoustic architecture similar to that of its larger sibling, Move 2. This innovative design is capable of generating deep, room-filling bass — on par with what you might expect from a home stereo system.
Creating a sense of sonic spaciousness is always the biggest challenge with a speaker of this size, but we’ve built Sonos Play to ensure wide, clear stereo sound regardless of whether you use it outside or indoors. Adding to that versatility is the built-in Trueplay™ tuning technology, which automatically analyses the unique acoustics of a space and optimises the speaker’s equalisation (EQ) to improve your listening experience.
Despite its compact size, Sonos Play delivers all of this sonic oomph with a long-lasting battery that allows for up to 24 hours of continuous playback (comparable to the larger Move 2). That means it can soundtrack a weekend trip even if you don’t have any room left in your backpack for the included charging base.
Sonos Play also features a USB-C port on the back that pulls triple duty. Use it to charge the speaker, reverse-charge your phone or tablet when you're on the go, or connect it as a line-in for your turntable at home. (Cable not included.)

Space-filling sound, at home and on the go
When we say Sonos Play is our most versatile portable Bluetooth speaker yet, we’re not kidding. Even calling it a “portable” speaker risks under-representing all the ways you can use it.
For example, Sonos Play can seamlessly integrate with your at-home Sonos system (it can even add an extra room to a multi-room audio setup). Simply use the Sonos app to connect it to the rest of your system over WiFi.
Of course, this is a portable speaker first and foremost, equipped with Bluetooth capabilities for on-the-go listening in places where a WiFi connection isn’t available. Everything about Sonos Play — from its slim profile to its space-filling sound — is designed to give you a premium sound experience wherever life takes you.
Waterproof and weatherproof design
Whether you’re chilling poolside or dancing in the rain, Sonos Play doesn’t let a bit of water stand in the way of a good time. With an IP (Ingress Protection) rating of IP67, it’s both dustproof and waterproof. Exactly what you might expect from a speaker that’s all about play.
And speaking of outdoor play, Sonos Play features a brand-new addition to a Sonos speaker: a silicone utility loop that rotates up or down depending on your needs. Flip it up for easy carrying, or to latch it onto a tent, backpack, or wall hook. Rotate it down for a cleaner look at home — plus easier access to the Bluetooth, mic switch (which turns off voice assistants), and power controls on the back.
Offline pairing and grouping
Once you experience how seamlessly Sonos Play fits into any space — indoors or out — you might be tempted to pick up a second. And if you do, you’ll unlock a capability that helps you get even more out of your portable speakers.
For the first time, you can group two Sonos Play speakers together to bring the Sonos experience beyond home — even if you don’t have access to a WiFi connection. Group as many as four Sonos Play speakers at once to turn any campsite or beach blanket into an immersive Sonos experience.

Sonos Play and sustainability
Sonos Play has a sustainability story befitting a speaker that’s designed to be taken out in nature. Put simply, Sonos Play is the most sustainable Sonos portable speaker yet. Its rugged construction of bio-renewable materials is built to withstand years of use, and its optimised power management achieves peak performance after only a short charge.
Sonos Play also features a battery that can be removed and replaced by the user — no complicated installation required. This helps minimise our ecological footprint and ensures that each Sonos Play speaker enjoys as long a lifespan as possible.

Get ready to Play
In many ways, Sonos Play is the speaker we’ve been building up to for decades — one that honours our legacy as a sound company while embodying the spirit of innovation that first took Sonos outside the home. More than anything, Sonos Play is about meeting our listeners where they are: at home, on the move, and everywhere in between.
