Introducing Sonos Ace Ultra - Our Latest Premium Headphones

Modern life can be hard on the ears. Perhaps this explains the enduring popularity of Sonos Ace, the first-ever over-ear headphone from Sonos. Designed for comfort, spacious audio that reflects the artist's intent, and exceptional noise cancellation, Sonos Ace introduced a more private version of the Sonos experience for listeners inside and outside the home. Now, we’re fine-tuning that experience even more with our next generation of premium over-ear headphones. Meet Sonos Ace Ultra.

Every aspect of Sonos Ace Ultra is designed to set new benchmarks for audio performance without compromising comfort or connectivity. It starts with an all-new driver design that delivers better bass, clearer music, and improved Active Noise Cancellation (ANC). But it isn’t just sheer sonic bliss that sets our new flagship headphone apart. TV Audio Swap enables seamless switching from your headphones to a compatible Sonos soundbar, and headphone linking – a new approach to WiFi streaming now available in Early Access¹ – allows for easy switching to a compatible non-soundbar speaker.

Powerful, portable, and engineered to elicit pure joy, Sonos Ace Ultra delivers the ultimate personal Sonos listening experience. Let’s look at what sets this headphone apart.

Exceptional sound

Over-ear headphones have long been a go-to for exceptional sound, as their large size can accommodate drivers that generate a more expansive soundstage. But no wireless over-ear headphone has ever sounded quite like Sonos Ace Ultra.

Inside each headphone is a custom-built driver featuring a newly designed motor structure with an additional outer ring magnet. This innovative design produces clear audio, from bright treble to deep bass. To strike the right balance across this range, we brought in Oscar and Grammy-winning engineers to help tune Sonos Ace Ultra’s audio profile.

And it’s not just the hardware that counts. A good set of headphones can’t make up for poor-quality streaming audio, so we designed Ace Ultra to support advanced audio file types and to help you shape your sound with a customizable 3- and 8-band EQ. Sonos Ace Ultra also introduces Adaptive EQ, which measures the seal and fit of each ear cup and then adjusts the sound in real time, so what you hear stays balanced and natural as you move.

Evolved Active Noise Cancellation

Of course, with noise-cancelling headphones, what you don’t hear is as important as what you do. The drivers inside Sonos Ace Ultra create a more responsive ANC experience, producing noise cancelling frequencies faster and more effectively.

As you might recall from our guide to noise-cancelling headphones, ANC works by essentially turning sound against itself. Tiny microphones inside the ear cups continuously analyze the noise in your surrounding environment, identifying the frequency and amplitude of incoming sounds. The headphones then generate a soundwave that's the exact opposite, which cancels out unwelcome noise before it reaches your ears.

Sonos Ace Ultra takes this principle to extreme levels of efficiency. Through thousands of hours of testing across diverse fit and wear profiles, our engineers have fine-tuned every layer of the ANC process, from microphone signal processing to adaptive response speed to frequency targeting. An all-new 10-mic array detects more of what's around you than ever before, so more of it can be cancelled out — even noisy subway cars or airplane cabins.

Connect to your Sonos system

Use TV Audio Swap for Personalized Home Theater

Sonos Ace introduced a new option for personal listening with TV Audio Swap, a WiFi-powered connection allowing for easy switching between a compatible Sonos soundbar and headphones. This feature returns with Sonos Ace Ultra, and can be set up with a few simple steps through the Sonos App. With TV Audio Swap enabled, you can effortlessly shift between out-loud and personal listening, perfect for when you want to reduce household noise.

Use headphone linking to swap audio with your Sonos speakers

Sonos Ace Ultra also pioneers an entirely new way to connect to the rest of your Sonos system, with a new feature called headphone linking, available in Early Access. With just one press, you can now seamlessly move audio between Sonos Ace Ultra and a compatible Sonos speaker streaming over the same WiFi connection. You will also be able to pick and control your music on your headphones directly in the Sonos app. For more information, read our support article here.

Battery life that lasts

Sonos Ace Ultra’s battery allows for up to 35 hours of bluetooth streaming with ANC on. That’s an improvement on the already-exceptional battery life in Sonos Ace.

Impressive though that may be, let’s face it: there will always be times when you simply forget to charge before a long commute or listening session. Ace Ultra takes the stress out of these situations with rapid charging that gives you three hours of playback with ANC on just a three-minute charge.

And if you find yourself with lower power and no charging source nearby? Sonos Ace Ultra stretches its juice to the last drop with an all-new power saver mode that doubles your remaining battery life by strategically switching off certain features.

Premium comfort

Sonos Ace Ultra’s impressive battery life would hardly matter if it weren’t comfortable enough to wear for hours on end. That’s why the design places the same priority on wearability as it does on sound.

Building on Sonos Ace’s reputation for comfort, Sonos Ace Ultra features a reinforced headband and durable hinges that withstand daily wear without losing their ergonomic shape. The carefully balanced design accommodates any head shape and applies just the right clamping force to the plush rebound foam cushions, which create a snug yet gentle fit on the ear.

We don’t recommend listening to Sonos Ace Ultra all day without taking a break, but let’s put it this way: you’ll never need to stop for the sake of comfort.

Stay aware, stay connected

The best over-ear headphones don’t just offer an escape from the world. They also offer more chances of staying in touch with what (or who) matters.

Sonos Ace Ultra keeps you in tune with your surroundings even while you listen to your favorite music or podcasts. Aware Mode pipes in outside sounds, ensuring that you stay naturally aware and responsive to important signals from the environment. Meanwhile, the Voice Boost feature detects and enhances human speech so it comes through clearly even with Aware Mode.

Crystal-clear calls

Sonos Ace Ultra is just as capable of facilitating remote conversations. The same 10-microphone array behind Aware Mode supports crystal-clear calls, while specialized beam forming microphones bring the sonic profile of your voice above background noise.

If you’ve ever used ANC, you may have experienced some difficulty in hearing your own voice during phone calls. Sonos Ace Ultra solves this awkwardness with the Sidetone feature, which lets you hear your voice even while ANC is on and makes conversations feel more natural and effortless.

Effortless control

Sonos Ace Ultra features an intuitive physical design that will be familiar to fans of Sonos Ace, though with some additional updates and innovations to support streamlined listening.

A simple button array includes a power button on the left ear cup and an ANC button on the right ear cup. The right ear cup also features a Content Key used to adjust volume, skip songs, and answer phone calls.

Less visible but equally helpful is a smart wear detection feature that automatically plays or pauses audio when you put on or take off Sonos Ace Ultra. And it has never been easier to connect your headphones to your preferred device, whether you’re using Bluetooth or AirPlay with iOS.

Colors that suit your style

Sonos Ace Ultra is available in stylish black and white colorways across a range of retailers. Customers who purchase directly from Sonos and select retailers will also have access to two additional colorways: Agave and Sand.

Paired with subtle metallic accents and smooth finishes, all four launch colorways are refined enough to work with any fashion statement.

Sonos Ace Ultra and sustainability

Consciously designed to last, Sonos Ace Ultra builds on the sustainable innovations we built into Sonos Ace. This starts with the materials, which use significantly more recycled and renewable materials compared to Sonos Ace (46% total). This includes a lighter carrying case made with about 80% recycled content, and Sonos’ first use of bio-based plastics.

In line with our focus on longevity, Sonos Ace Ultra’s design incorporates fasteners rather than adhesives wherever possible, making the headphones easier to refurbish, repair, and recycle. The battery inside Sonos Ace Ultra is replaceable by a skilled operator, and the vegan leather ear cushions can be easily swapped when worn out. The improved battery life comes with power saver mode, helping users monitor and extend performance for their headphones over time.

How Sonos Ace Ultra compares to Sonos Ace

With the launch of Sonos Ace Ultra, the Sonos lineup now features two premium headphones options. Whether you opt for Sonos Ace or Sonos Ace Ultra will depend on your budget, listening habits, and connectivity preferences.

In general, Sonos Ace Ultra’s design is more grounded in home listening, with features that allow for even more connectivity with the rest of your Sonos system. But both options are built to perform wherever you take them.

Here’s a quick breakdown of how they compare:

  • Sound: Sonos Ace brings the signature Sonos sound into a headphone designed for everyday listening. Sonos Ace Ultra builds on Ace’s sonic profile with the next generation of Sonos driver technology, resulting in a totally immersive sound.
  • ANC: Both models feature ANC. Sonos Ace Ultra’s advanced ANC is more effective thanks to its refined mic processing and 10-mic array (compared to the 8-mic array in Sonos Ace).
  • Battery life: Sonos Ace offers up to 30 hours of playback with ANC on a full charge, and up to three hours with just three minutes of charging time. Sonos Ace Ultra improves on this slightly, with up to 35 hours of ANC playback on a full charge, and up to three hours with just three minutes of charging time. Sonos Ace Ultra also features a new power saver mode for extended listening.
  • Aware Mode: Sonos Ace Ultra features a more advanced version of Aware Mode, including exclusive features such as Voice Boost.
  • Comfort and style: Both headphones are designed for comfortable all-day wear, but Sonos Ace Ultra features premium materials for a more refined, fatigue-free experience.
  • Case and included accessories: Sonos Ace Ultra features an updated case, which still includes a magnetic pouch for the cables. Both headphones come with a USB-C to USB-C cable for charging and listening, and a USB-C to 3.5 mm cable for connecting to in-flight entertainment systems or anywhere you’d need a traditional headphone jack.
  • Connectivity: Both headphones offer TV Audio Swap, but Sonos Ace Ultra has headphone linking, a feature that allows the headphones to stream audio over WiFi and swap audio with your Sonos speakers.

Discover Sonos Ace Ultra

Sonos Ace Ultra is an outstanding over-ear headphone by any measure: its comfort, battery life, and audio performance are all virtually unmatched by the competition.

But that’s only part of the story. Sonos Ace Ultra also offers capabilities that are totally unique to a premium Sonos headphone. No other headphone can seamlessly integrate with a modern Sonos sound system, whether via TV Audio Swap, or high-quality WiFi audio streaming. This connectivity allows for a more blended, natural listening experience than ever before.
