In this update:

  • The Sonos app has been fully redesigned, bringing a more personalized experience and a new look and feel.

    • A redesigned interface streamlines control and gives you quicker access to your content from the Home screen.

    • View and control your system by swiping up from the bottom of the Home screen or selecting your system name in the top left corner.

    • New Message Center with product tips and system recommendations.

    • New web app lets you control your system from your tablet, laptop, or desktop.

    • Learn more about the new Sonos app.

  • With this release, we’re aligning the version number of the Sonos app with the version number of the software running on Sonos products. Both the Sonos app and Sonos products are now running software version 80.0.

In this update:

  • Sonos Voice Control now supports additional requests in French. These include setting timers and sleep timers, playing Sonos Playlists, skipping forward and back by specific time intervals, and asking for a station or playlist based on the artist that’s currently playing. These requests are also supported by Sonos Voice Control in English.

  • We’ve adjusted how the Bluetooth Always Auto-connect setting works in order to prevent unexpected reconnections during a power or network outage. These changes affect Move 2, Era products, and Roam products.

    When this setting is enabled:

    • Era products will now only reconnect to a previous Bluetooth device when they are manually switched to Bluetooth mode.
    • Move 2, Roam, and Roam SL will no longer reconnect to a previous Bluetooth device when they automatically turn on after being plugged in to power or placed on a charging cradle. They will now only reconnect when manually powered on or awakened with the playback controls.

In this update:

  • We’ve removed the ability to control the Sonos app for iOS using lock screen controls and device hardware buttons. The way these features were architected do not meet Apple’s experience guidelines for developers and no longer offer a reliable control experience.
  • Bug fixes and performance enhancements.

Alerts:

  • With this update, we’ve adjusted how some of our older Sonos products are using their internal memory. Because of this change, updates for Play:1, Play:3, Boost, Connect, Connect:Amp, and Sub (Gen 1 and 2) will take longer to complete than before. The reset process for these products will also take more time to complete after this update.

In this update:

  • Amazon Alexa is now available on Sonos in additional regions. These regions use the international version of Alexa, which is more limited in its available features and languages. Learn more in our Alexa availability article.

  • We’ve removed the ability to play audio files directly to Sonos using the “On this device” menu in the Sonos app for Android. We recommend using one of the methods described in this article to make sure you can still play any files stored on your Android device.

In this update:

  • Apple Music now supports playback of Dolby Atmos music through Sonos products that support spatial audio.

  • We’ve made some changes and improvements to the process of grouping rooms together.
    • You can now change the volume of selected rooms before grouping them. If a room is muted, you can unmute it by tapping the volume bar.
    • Selected rooms will group together at the top of your rooms list.

  • We’re rolling out a new WiFi signal strength feature over the coming weeks.
    • When connected to a WiFi network, your Sonos products will now show their WiFi signal strength in the Settings tab of the app.
    • Additionally, you can now find detailed networking information for a Sonos product connected to your WiFi network.

  • Bug fixes and performance enhancements.

  • The Sonos app for macOS will no longer receive software updates on macOS 10.11.

  • You can now add Sonos Radio stations to Favorites.
    • You can find all of the Sonos Radio stations you’ve added to Favorites under Browse > Sonos Radio > Favorites.

  • We will begin gradually rolling out a new universal search feature available in the Sonos app for iOS and Android.

14.20

In this update:

  • Sonos Voice Control is now available in French.

  • Sonos products will now show a status message in the System tab or the Settings menus when they’re offline. We’ll be rolling this change out to all users over a few days after release.
    • Products that are offline or disconnected will no longer disappear from the app. Instead, they’ll show a “not connected” status message. Tapping the name of the product will launch in-app help to get it reconnected. Learn more.
    • Portable Sonos products will let you know if they’re in sleep mode, powered off, or if the battery has been depleted.
    • If a product is disconnected and you’d like to hide it from the app, you can do so under the product’s menu in Settings > System.

  • Roam has two new Bluetooth settings which can be enabled in your Roam’s settings page.
    • Idle Auto-Disconnect will disconnect the Roam from its Bluetooth device after an idle period of 30 minutes.
    • Always Auto-Connect will connect your Roam to its most recent Bluetooth device when it detects it nearby.

  • When connected to WiFi, Roam and Roam SL stereo pairs can now play stereo audio from Bluetooth sources. These stereo pairs will no longer separate when switching to Bluetooth mode.

  • Added a new WiFi Power Save setting for Roam and Roam SL to help extend battery life when connected to wireless networks.


  • Added a setting for Multi-product Setup in the Sonos app, allowing you to set up multiple Sonos products in a row before applying any necessary software updates.


  • Made improvements to the clarity of Arc’s audio while playing dialogue.


  • You can now use the S2 app to downgrade some Sonos products to S1 in order to add them to an S1 system. Learn more.

In this update:

  • We’ve improved Roam’s power management to help extend Roam’s battery life when it’s not actively being used.
  • The Sonos app will now alert you when your Roam is connected to a charger that isn’t providing enough power to charge the battery.
  • When your Roam is in sleep mode, you can now wake it up using the top playback buttons (in addition to the power button on the back).

In this update:

  • Added software support for Sonos Roam.
  • The process of updating Sonos Wi-Fi information in the Sonos app has been overhauled and improved. It’s now easier to reconnect your Sonos system to your network if you’ve changed your router or updated your Wi-Fi password.
  • When playing TV audio, the Sonos app now shows the current audio format on the Now Playing screen.
  • Added WPA3 security support for Move, Roam, One (Gen2), One SL, Five, Port, and Sub (Gen3).
  • When playing from Spotify, the Sonos app can now favorite and unfavorite tracks from the Now Playing screen.

  • Sonos Arc now supports multi-channel LPCM surround sound through an eARC connection.


  • Arc’s EQ has been adjusted for vocal clarity and has been improved in a variety of scenarios, including while wall-mounted.


  • The Sonos app now has additional language support for Turkish, Russian, Korean, and Chinese Traditional (Hong Kong & Taiwan).

12.1

In this update:

  • The process for setting up a new Sonos system and adding new Sonos products has been completely redesigned.



    • The Sonos app will now detect new nearby products and provide an automatic prompt to get you started.
    • The Settings menu now shows Setup Tiles to help you enable features on your Sonos products.
    • The process for creating a stereo pair or adding surround speakers has been updated and improved.
  • The app will now display a banner alert if one of your added music services is experiencing an outage.


  • One (Gen 2), One SL, Five, and Sub (Gen 3) can now connect to 5GHz and 802.11a/n WiFi networks.


  • Voice-enabled Sonos products using Amazon Alexa now support the use of Alexa Routines.

In this update:

  • The new Sonos S2 app is now available with a new look, new icon, and new features.



    • The current Sonos app has been renamed to the Sonos S1 Controller with a new icon.
    • Your Sonos system can now update to S2 if all of your Sonos products are compatible. Tap the banner at the top of your Sonos app to get started.

  • Added software support for the Sonos Arc, Sonos Five, and Sonos Sub (Gen 3).


  • You can now save a group of rooms that you frequently group together and create a shortcut in the Groups menu.


  • When setting up a voice assistant, the response chime will now be turned off by default. You can still choose to enable the chime during setup or in your app’s Settings menu.
