Important News About the Sonos Dock

Sonos Dock

Introduced in 2010, the Sonos Dock provided a way to play music direct from Apple devices to the Sonos system without the need of a wireless connection or the Sonos app. Although we support Sonos products for as long as possible, Apple no longer supports many of the devices Dock was designed to work with. Therefore, as of the software update on 9 October 2018, Dock is no longer supported as part of the Sonos system.

What does this mean?

When you accept the software update which became available on 9 October 2018 (version 9.2), your Dock will no longer connect to Sonos, although it can still be used as a charger for older Apple devices. To enjoy music from those devices on Sonos, you will need to connect them via a line-in connection to any compatible Sonos product (Play:5, Connect, Connect:Amp).

If you need help accessing your local music library on a supported device, please see our how-to guide, or reach out to our Care team. And now with voice, direct control, and AirPlay 2, there are more ways than ever to get more of the music you love on your Sonos system.

What if I don't want to update to software version 9.2?

Ultimately, the decision to update your Sonos system is yours. If you choose not to update, you will need to turn off updates on both your Sonos system and all devices on which you have installed the Sonos app. In the future, you will no longer be able to add new speakers or devices to control your Sonos. You also will not be able to take advantage of future feature/functionality improvements or security updates.

What if I updated to software version 9.2 by accident?

Unfortunately, there is no way for us to revert your system back to a state that will bring functionality back to the Dock. If you have additional questions or need further assistance, please reach out to our Care team.
