Really enjoying my Connect

Comments about SONOS CONNECT (Formerly the ZonePlayer 90):

This product was quick & easy to set up. Updates have downloaded without a hitch. In the 15 months since I got my Connect, the app has steadily improved. Mine is hooked up to an elderly Arcam AVR300 receiver & Linn Komponent speakers. I can't praise the dynamics enough at this price point. It would be nice to see this product move on to truly HD audiophile formats, but that should not be taken as a grumble.

Comments about SONOS CONNECT (Formerly the ZonePlayer 90):

After purchasing some Play:1's this was a must have for my existing surround sound system in the Lounge.

High cost (so purchased secondhand) for what it is but it just works and makes it easy to play music for a large list of sources.

Just wish it came in black! as its now hidden in a cupboard.

Comments about SONOS CONNECT (Formerly the ZonePlayer 90):

I have a collection of about 30000 songs, mostly in flac, but also ape, and most of them with lyrics in tag. I use the Sonos system to stream music from a NAS to my livingroom HiFi amplifier and speaker set. The system works great out of the box, but has some silly limitations in album art size, file format and bitrate/sample rate. It could just downsize album art and downsample high res music like my old squeezebox did. Which also had support for any metadata you could think of. And lyrics. How hard can it be to implement lyrics support? It's already there in the tags...

When we bought our house it came with a built in Bose Lifestyle system that covers the ground floor. This system is OK, but a little dated now. Rather than ripping it all out and starting completely fresh it seemed like a sensible idea to connect a Sonos Connect to it and stream our music that way. It's worked brilliantly well and it's bought us time to plan how we'll get rid of the Bose system altogether.

Comments about SONOS CONNECT (Formerly the ZonePlayer 90):

I already had a fully functional but slightly dated multi-room system based on Linn Knekt. It does the job perfectly well for traditional sources but it was awkward to play music from the computer. I had been thinking of adding a Sonos Connect for a while but the clincher was the support for Apple Music. I can now play Apple Music, everything on iTunes Match, internet radio stations etc without having to leave the main computer on, and control it from a variety of devices.

I don't intend to replace my main system but if I did I would probably base it on Sonos, though it would leave me with the opposite problem of how to connect several traditional sources. As far as I know there is no Sonos box with more than one "line in", which is a bit of a limitation. I'd like a box with about 8 inputs!

It also handles mp3 files. Stereo imaging is very good.
Naturally 'officially' downloaded files sound so much crisper and brighter than poor quality reproductions on mp3.

Comments about SONOS CONNECT (Formerly the ZonePlayer 90):

Great product, good sound quality, and easy set up. It is a discreet design and is pretty much fit and forget.
I also have a couple of Play 1s that in different rooms that I like to use at the same time, and here lies the biggest flaw of the system. When you run your connect via a Digital amp (I use an Onkyo) and try to play music at the same time as using additional Play units, you get an intolerable delay on your amplifier. This is not strictly the fault of the Connect, as the Amp itself is processing the signal. However, there is no way to account for this delay by adding a delay to the additional Play speakers. This seems a big oversight in the system that claims to be so compatible. You can set your amplifier to "pure" or "Direct" where there is no DSP, but that defeats the object of having a theatre system amp in my opinion. Many forums talk about this issue, but so far there seems to be no commitment to a solution from Sonos that I have seen.
                  Disappointing.

This is a great product that we use in our dance studio. The integration of different sources is great for the classroom but there's just one problem for dance teachers in that you can't sort out your playlist offline. I know you can do this by creating an iTunes playlist and then importing but we wanted the Sonos app to replace our Itunes playlists as these have many bugs.

Other than that we are extremely happy with the product :)

Great little product, let down only by single pair of phono inputs - I use for record deck, but would need two Connects to connect CD player as well which is a bit annoying. Product blurb focusses on the outputs, when the inputs really matter more when switching to a modern streaming system. Typically, brilliant made and packaged though.

Our old radio had got to the stage of having to be replaced, and we were not at the time aware of Sonos and that you could link in a network device into your amp.

We had looked at somehow linking the computer in, but it was not an obvious solution and there was no real remote for it.

This works great, we get internet radio, and can play Spotify through it, so great. Just to figure out how to play the. Using on my computer through it, but will need a rainy day for that!

I have this device for almost 10 years now. It is wired to my network and local music is through the office server. I recently bought 2 more "play 1" to use them in different positions (as mono wireless devices) and their sound is acceptable. Sonos connect plays in a High end stereo using a MF DAC and the sound is excellent. Sonos updates make the product current, all interfaces (Android, Windows, IOS) are excellent. It is a pity that there is no updated product to cover Hi Res files.
I would also wish that a new product would be able to attach an external HDD, to play hi res music and to dispose spdif output also.

I have spent more time on the phone with sonos customer service than listening to the Play 1s (with connect). Don't get me wrong - the sound quality is great, it just can barely make it through a song without cutting out. I thought this would be an easy fix - a settings problem that sonos could guide me through... but after trying everything while on the phone for hours (multiple times) I can still barely make it through a song most days.

For a product that claims to be wireless - it is it's biggest flaw.

Wouldn't recommend these to my worst enemy.

I purchased this to replace a whole house interface module iPhone cradle which was old and no longer working. It took about 5 min to set up (and I'm not a tech guy). So easy to install it was almost comical. One wire to the amp and it was done.

I'm running the app on my iPhone and iPads. Works exactly as advertised all around our house and in our yard from the control room in the basement. I love it

Can't tell the difference between CD straight into my Amp or source (WAV format) via the CONNECT - tried switching between the two as a test so I'm happy.
Does appear to interfere with radio receiver but it is located right next to it & most of time I now listen to internet radio using SONOS

                                - amount of songs for index is still limited to about 60k for own NAS, while this is not a problem for Spotify, Deezer,... please fix this

                                - own dedicated remote control for only Sonos was heaven, because then you don't get distracted by other apps , which is the case each time you have to open Sonos on a tablet. Just want to enjoy music only !

                                Questions?

                                1. Do I need a BOOST?

Use a BOOST if you’re worried about your home WiFi performance.

Connecting a Sonos unit to your router with an Ethernet cable automatically creates a dedicated Sonos wireless network. Any player or a BOOST can make this hard-wired connection. A dedicated Sonos network is ideal when your WiFi isn’t reliable in your home.

                                2. Where does the music come from?

The music on Sonos comes from your favourite music streaming services, your personal music library and Internet radio stations from around the world. Access all your music within the Main Menu of the Sonos App.

                                3. Do you make an outdoor speaker?

No, but they're all light and portable. As long as there's an outlet, you've got Sonos. The speaker units that we sell, the PLAY:1, PLAY:3 and PLAY:5, are not weather-rated. They can certainly be moved outside, but they are not designed to live outside unless they are in a covered space. If you are looking for a permanent outdoor zone of music, you can use our CONNECT:AMP unit with traditional weather-rated speakers.

                                4. Will Sonos work with my existing equipment?

Already have a Stereo? Use the CONNECT.

The CONNECT is designed specifically to integrate with an external amplifier/receiver, and bring Sonos functionality to a third party system. Once you have a CONNECT hooked up to your stereo system, you can stream digital music and control the music selection and volume from the Sonos app.

Have a pair of speakers? The CONNECT:AMP is all you need.

If you have existing wired speakers that are not currently driven by amplifier, you can use a CONNECT:AMP to bring Sonos functionality to your speakers. Once you wire your speakers to a CONNECT:AMP, you can stream digital music and control the music selection and volume from the Sonos app.

                                5. Can I connect Sonos to my TV?

PLAYBAR is the only soundbar that delivers outstanding Hi-Fi Sound for your TV and is a complete Wireless HiFi System that plays all the music on earth. It is simple to set-up, control and expand throughout your home. With only an optical cable connecting PLAYBAR to your TV, you can control it with your regular TV remote or with the free Sonos apps on iOS, Android, Mac and PC.

PLAYBAR is the core piece in a Sonos home theatre solution. If you want dramatically deeper bass, you can add our wireless SUB. If you're looking for surround sound, you can use two PLAY:1s or two PLAY:3s as wireless rear surrounds.

                                6. Can I connect more than 2 speakers to the CONNECT:AMP?

The CONNECT:AMP is designed for a single pair of speakers - it is a stereo amplifier, right and left channel. However, if your speakers are rated at 8 ohms, you can wire up to 2 pairs, or 4 speakers, to one CONNECT:AMP - you just won’t have independent control between those two pairs of speakers, in terms of volume and music selection.  ×
                                7. Can I use two PLAY speakers as a stereo pair?

The PLAY:1, PLAY:3 AND PLAY:5 can easily be setup as a stereo pair, using the controller app. If you are looking for more distinction between the left and right channels, you can use any two matching Sonos speakers in a stereo pair. Creating a stereo pair is a simple software toggle which turns one speaker into a dedicated left and the other into a dedicated right. Stereo pairing creates a wider stereo experience to help you hear every instrument and vocal more discretely, and fill a room more evenly with sound.

                                8. Which speaker is right for my room?

All of our speakers sound great in any room; which speaker is best for your particular room depends on your desired room experience. For many, the PLAY:1 will provide an incredible music experience with deep bass and plenty of power. Consider upgrading to a PLAY:3 or PLAY:5, or to a stereo pair of speakers if you:

                                  • Want deeper bass
                                  • Want more power
                                  • Have the space to set up two players in stereo pair mode

                                9. How do I choose between a PLAY:5 and a stereo pair of PLAY:1s?

While both options deliver an incredible music experience, each has its unique benefits. The differences:

                                  • Choose PLAY:5 for maximum power and the deepest bass.
                                  • Choose a stereo pair of PLAY:1s to create a wider sound stage, allowing every vocal and instrument to be heard more discretely.
