Cinema should sound every bit as good as it looks: Sonos and Abbey Road Studios are coming together to give one filmmaker the gift of sound. We are on the hunt for a compelling, visually stunning short film that is worthy of a dynamic new score. The winning piece will be rescored by Oscar-winning composer Steven Price and will premiere in Abbey Road Studios’ iconic Studio One, accompanied by a live orchestra.

The Prize

The winning entry will be rescored by Oscar winning composer Steven Price and produced by critically acclaimed producer Giles Martin in Studio One at Abbey Road Studios.The final piece will premiere to press and special guests at Abbey Road Studios, accompanied by a live studio orchestra. Our winning filmmaker will feature alongside the ReScored judges in a ‘making of’ film, talking about their ReScored experience.

Competition Criteria

  1. Your short film must be just that. We’re looking for work that clocks in at 10 minutes or less.
  2. To be in with a chance of winning, your film must be complete when you submit it to us.
  3. You must also submit a short blurb telling us about yourself and the story behind your film.
  4. All entries must be submitted before Tuesday 30 May 2017 9 am (updated submission period).
  5. The winner will be required to attend the premiere at Abbey Road Studios, London on 22nd June 2017.

These Terms and Conditions prevail in the event of any conflict or inconsistency with any other communications, including advertising or promotional materials. Entry/claim instructions are deemed to form part of the terms and conditions and by participating all claimants will be deemed to have accepted and be bound by the terms and conditions.   1. Eligibility: The competition is open to UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) residents who are 18 years or over excluding employees and their immediate families of the Promoter, its agents or anyone professionally connected with this promotion.
  2. No purchase necessary. One entry per person. Anyone trying to circumvent this rule by using alternative details will be disqualified from this promotion. Joint entries and entries (bulk or otherwise) made from businesses, consumer groups or third parties will not be accepted.
  3. Promotional Period: The opening date for the receipt of entries to the promotion is 09.05.17 at 18.00pm and the closing date is 30.05.17 at 09.00am.
  4. Entry Instructions: Visit, follow instructions and complete the online form. You must upload a short film (the “Content”) that you have personally created and write a short blurb about yourself and the story behind your film. There is no restriction on topic.
  5. Films must adhere to the follow criteria. Entries that do not will be deemed invalid.
    1. The film must be a minimum of 5 mins long and a maximum of 10 minutes long;
    2. The film must not feature violence, sex, drug use or any other illegal or dangerous behaviour;
    3. The film must not, in the reasonable opinion of the Promoter, feature defamatory, malicious, or other inappropriate content;
    4. The film must not, in the reasonable opinion of the Promoter, cause any widespread or serious offense (taking into account prevailing community views or standards).
  6. Entrants hereby grant to the Promoter, subject to being declared the winner of the Promotion (“Winning Entrant”), a royalty free, perpetual, worldwide, irrevocable and sub-licensable licence, right and permission to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, score, dub, publish and display the Content, in whole or in part, for any purpose in any and all media throughout the world in perpetuity, without further consideration, restriction on use, attribution or liability. Entrants hereby waive all, and agree not to assert any, moral or similar rights in the Content (including any modified version of the Content) wherever in the world arising. Entrants warrant and undertake that (a) they own all rights in the Content, (b) the Content is their own original creation, (c) the Content, and use thereof by the Promoter in accordance with these terms, does not and will not infringe the rights of any third party, (d) they have full authority to grant these rights and to provide these warranties and undertakings, (e) any person featured in the Content has given their express permission and/or any child (under 16 years) has parental or guardian consent.

    The winning Entrant hereby acknowledges that, as between the Entrant and the Promoter, the Promoter owns any and all rights in and to the score that is created by Steven Price (the “Score”), as well as any and all rights in and to any modifications and/or adaptation made to the Content (including any synchronisation of the Content with the Score)(“Rescored Content”).The Promoter hereby grants to the Winning Entrant a royalty free, revocable, non-transferrable licence to use the Rescored Content for non-commercial and non-paid for purposes only, for example on its own social media channels and website (“Permitted Uses”). No commercial uses are permitted. The Entrant is not granted a licence to use the Score, other than as part of the Rescored Content. Other than being permitted to use their original Content in the same way as the Permitted Uses, the Winning Entrant hereby undertakes not to use, publish or exploit their original Content, in whole or in part, in any way for a period of at least 3 years from the closing date of this Promotion, or to permit any third party to do so, other than with Promoter’s express written permission. For the avoidance of doubt, under no circumstances may the Winning Entrant use any part of the score synchronized with the Content in any manner whatsoever separate and apart from its use with the Content as scored by Steven Price. For example, but not in limitation of the foregoing, without the prior written approval of Steven Price, no audio-only use or out-of-context use of the score may be made for any purpose whatsoever, whether or not a commercial use.
  7. Entrants who do not give correct details or those who make an entry on someone else’s behalf will be disqualified, at the Promoter’s discretion.
  8. Incomplete, illegible, misdirected or late entries/claims will not be accepted. Proof of sending will not be accepted as proof of delivery. The Promoter takes no responsibility for entries/claims delayed, incomplete or lost due to technical reasons or otherwise.
  9. The Prize: 1 x SONOS PLAYBASE and Steven Price will create a score for the winning short film.
  10. The SONOS PLAYBASE will be delivered to the winner within 12 weeks of the closing date.
  11. The winner must be available to meet Steven Price at 3 Abbey Road, London, NW8 9AY on a date between 31st May –16th June, to be arranged between all parties. He/she must also be available to attend the premiere of the scored film at 3 Abbey Road, London, NW8 9AY on 22nd June 2017 All associated expenses including but not limited to travel, food and accommodation will be the winner’s own. Failure to be able to attend will result in the prize being forfeit and the Promoter may at its absolute discretion dispose of the prize without liability to the winner.
  12. The winner will be invited to observe the film being scored on 19th June at Abbey Road Studios.
  13. The winner will be filmed during all promotional events. This may be edited into content that will be featured of the Promoter’s owned sites and social media. The winner hereby agrees to take part in this and in any other publicity required in connection with this promotion with no further recompense.
  14. Winner Selection and Notification: All eligible entries received before the Closing Date will be judged on the 30th May, by a panel of four judges including at least one who is independent from the Promoter. The judges will select the entry they consider to be the most creative and original.
  15. The winner will be notified on 31.05.17 by email and/or phone. Once the price is claimed in accordance with section 17 below, the winner will be announced on the website.
  16. Winner Claim: The winner will have 48 hours to claim their prize from the initial notification. In the event of a non-claim the promoter reserves the right to reallocate the prize with no liability to a reserve chosen at the same time as the original winner.
  17. General: There are no cash alternatives to the prizes available in whole or in part except in the event of circumstances outside its control the Promoter reserves the right to substitute a similar alternative of equal or greater value. Unless otherwise agreed in writing by the Promoter the prize will only be awarded directly to the winner.
  18. The decisions of the Promoter are final in all promotional matters.
  19. The Promoter reserves the right to verify all entries and the winners and to refuse to award a prize or withdraw prize entitlement and/or refuse further participation in the promotion where there are reasonable grounds to believe that: there has been a breach of these terms and conditions or any instructions forming part of the entry requirements of this competition; or otherwise where a participant has gained unfair advantage in participating in the competition or won using fraudulent means.
  20. In the event of circumstances outside the reasonable control of the promoter, or otherwise where fraud, abuse, and/or an error (human or computer) affects or could affect the proper operation of this promotion or the awarding of prizes, and only where circumstances make this unavoidable, the Promoter reserves the right to cancel or amend the promotion or these terms and conditions , at any stage, but will always endeavour to minimize the effect to participants in order to avoid undue disappointment.
  21. The Promoter reserves the right to publish the name and county of the winners on their social media pages or other media.
  22. The winners may be required to participate in publicity with no recompense.
  23. For the winner’s full name and county please write to the promoter within 3 months of the closing date enclosing a self-addressed envelope, please mark your envelope for the attention of Jamie Coomber. Available for 3 months following the closing date.
  24. The Promoter and its associated agencies and companies accept no liability for any loss, expense or damage which is suffered or sustained (whether or not arising from any person's negligence) in connection with the Promotion and/or prizes, other than such liability that cannot be excluded by law including death or personal injury through negligence, where liability shall be limited to the minimum permissible by law.
  25. If any of these clauses should be determined to be illegal, invalid or otherwise unenforceable then it shall be severed and deleted from these terms and conditions and the remaining clauses shall survive and remain in full force and effect.
  26. Any question concerning the legal interpretation of the rules will be based on English law and the Courts of England and Wales will have exclusive jurisdiction.
  27. Data Protection: Use of personal data received in the course of the promotion will be in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 and is subject to the Promoter’s privacy policy set out at By submitting an entry to the competition, you consent to the Promoter processing your personal data for the purposes of carrying out the competition and notifying and advertising the winners.
